A funeral service was held Friday at Lakewood Funeral Home for Salvador Vargas II, 60, of Ceres. He died July 8, 2008 at his home.
Born March 13, 1948, Mr. Vargas was a member of the First Battalion Ninth Marines, nicknamed the "Walking Dead." He was one of the few Marines who survived and went on to live an abundant life. Mr. Vargas provided well for his family and was a very loyal friend of many.
He leaves behind his wife, Cynthia Marie Vargas of Ceres; his three children, Salvador Vargas III, Melissa Vargas, and Sophia Vargas; and five grandchildren, Anthony Salvador Vargas, Elias Salvador Vargas, Brandon Salvador Ramirez, Aryana Jade Maldonado and Joel Salvador Maldonado.
