A funeral Mass was held on Monday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Modesto for Sevie H. Sousa, 84, of Modesto. He died Nov. 21, 2011 surrounded by his family at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto after fighting a long battle with COPD.

Burial was at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Born on Jan. 26, 1927 in Humbolt County to Sylvester and Olivia Sousa, Sevie graduated from Ceres High School in 1947 and then served in the Navy. He married his wife of 60 years, Dolores Reis in Hughson. He worked as a welder at Harris Moran Seed Company for many years. Mr. Sousa had a passion for horses, and was a horse trainer, team roped and bred race horses. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, deep laughter, and playing the accordion at family and social events.

He leaves behind his loving wife Dolores Sousa of Modesto; his children, Katherine Lyle, Jacqueline Poulson, Sandra Parmley, Darlene Binkley, Robert Sousa and Patricia Davis; and 21 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, and sister LaVerne Baker of Turlock.

Remembrances may be sent to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Building Fund.
