A funeral service was held Sunday at the Old German Baptist Brethren Church near Modesto for Stanley Clarence Filbrun, 83, of Ceres. He died May 27, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto following a four-year battle against cancer.

Interment was at the Wood Colony Cemetery.

Born Nov. 19, 1924 in Fullerton, to Clarence and Bertha Churchbaugh Filbrun, Stanley became a Modesto area resident when he was 11 years old. He became a lifelong farmer. He graduated from Ceres High School in 1942.

On May 15, 1946 he married Wilma Kinzie.

In addition to farming and gardening, he was an elder in the Old German Baptist Brethren Church and spent much time ministering to the needs and welfare of his congregation.

He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Wilma Filbrun of Modesto; children Robert Filbrun, Janet Benedict, and Galen Filbrun; and11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Doris Fisher, Phyllis Flory and Pauline Grover.
