A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13 at Hughson Methodist Church, 2007 Sixth St., Hughson, for Steven Lee Barker, 47, of Ceres. He died Nov. 28, 2008.

Born Dec. 31, 1960 to Ralph and Evelyn Barker, Steve grew up in Hughson. He graduated from Hughson High School where he held records in football as a quarterback. Mr. Barker served as a police officer in Hughson and retired as a Stanislaus County Sheriff's deputy. He attended Community Baptist Church in Waterford, Hughson Methodist Church and United Pentecostal Church in downtown Modesto. In recent years Steve was a football coach for the Waterford High School Wildcats. Steven will be remembered for his passion for sports, and his love for his children and family.

He leaves behind his three daughters, Milissa Barker, Samantha Barker and Sara Barker; his father, Ralph Barker of Hughson; his sisters, Linda Roberts of St. John, Ind., and Vicky La Grove of Empire; his church companion, Gloria Villarreal of Ceres; his brother, Billy Barker of Klamath Falls, Ore.; his nieces, Shawna Moore of Ceres and Deanna Barker of Modesto; his nephew, Thomas Barker of Modesto. He was preceded in death by his mother, sister Janet Clinton and nephew Steven Heinemann.
