A funeral service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Chapel in Hughson at 10 a.m. on Friday for Ted Lee Fischer Sr., 76 of Ceres. He died on April 3, 2009 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson surrounded by his family.

Born Sept. 23,1932, Ted was a native of Washington and lived in Ceres for 62 years. He was retired from Delta Rubber Company where he worked as a salesman for nearly 30 years. He served in the Navy as a shipmate aboard the USS Oriskany during the Korean conflict. Ted was a member of the American Legion Post 491 in Ceres, the Forty and Eight Stanislaus Voiture 653 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He leaves behind his children, Ted Fischer Jr. of Galt, his daughter Shelly Mitchell of Turlock; his brother, Joe Fischer of Danville; his sister, Debbie Pasley of Drasko, Ark.; and four grandchildren, Shelby and Jonathan Fischer, Jessica and Jacob Mitchell. Ted was proceeded in death by his wife Doris, grandson Joshua Mitchell, mother Ruby Jones, brother Matt Fischer, and his sister Michelle Weaver.

Remembrances may be sent to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356; or to the Doris Fischer Scholarship fund, Ceres Unified School District, Indian Education Program.
