A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at West Modesto Meetinghouse of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Modesto, for Vannie William Blocher, 100, of Ceres. He died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004 at his home.
Burial will be at Wood Colony Cemetery in Modesto.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel.
Born Jan. 23, 1904, Mr. Blocher was a native of Minot, N.D. and lived in Ceres for four years. He previously lived in Modesto for 75 years. Mr. Blocher was a dairy farmer in Modesto from 1933 to 1966, then was a grain harvester operator for B&B Harvesting in Modesto for 15 years. He was a member of Old German Baptist Brethren Church. Mr. Blocher volunteered at the Salvation Army's Red Shield Center, and enjoyed gardening and travel.
He leaves behind five children, Eugene Blocher of Porterville, Paul Blocher of San Jose, and Morris Blocher, Ervin Blocher and Arlene Christian, all of Ceres; two sisters, Effie Jennings of Yerington, Nev., and Eva Hendley of Neosho, Mo.; and 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Ellen Blocher; six brothers; and two sisters.
