A memorial service was held Friday at the Hughson United Methodist Church for Virginia Bennett, 88, of Ceres. She died Sept. 30, 2008.

Born Feb. 13, 1920, Mrs. Bennett was a native of Taunton, Mass., and later moved with her family to Hayward. She graduated from Hayward High School where she met and later married Ray Bennett. After World War II they started the B-Line Express Trucking Co. in Oakland. In 1966 they moved to Modesto where they owned and operated the Holiday Motel. Mrs. Bennett lived in Ceres since retirement.

She was a member and guardian of Jobs Daughters and a member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Bennett was a member of the Ceres and Hughson United Methodist Church and a volunteer for the Salvation Army.

She leaves behind three children, Donald Bennett, Betty Bicknell and Edward Bennett; and eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Ray and son Douglas.
