A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday Nov. 14 at the Modesto Elks Lodge for Virginia Garlene Wibert, 69, of Modesto. She Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 at her home.

Allen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Born June 1938, Mrs. Wibert was a native of Santa Monica and raised in Compton. She received her nursing degree from UCLA and had worked at the Long Beach Veteran Hospital and then later taught nursing at UCLA. Mrs. Wibert had lived in the Modesto/Ceres area for over 20 years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 3199, Red Hat Society, and the Modesto Elk Lodge. She enjoyed reading and traveling. She was a published novelist and a homeopathic doctor.

She leaves behind her husband, Blaine Wibert of Modesto; her children, John Russell of Arkansas, Jan Spotorno of Lodi, Joseph De Frates of Rogers, Ark., and Juanita Lamberson of Peoria Heights, Ill.; her sister, Saundra Zemenck of Iowa; her brother, Stanley Elder of Hemet; and 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers James Haakinson and Jerry De Frates.
