Walt Butler Jr.

A memorial service will be held at a later date for former longtime Ceres resident Walt "Pappy" Butler Jr. He died Wednesday, March 9, 2005 in Yuma Az. after a lengthy illness.

Born March 21, 1925 in Yakama, Wash., Mr. Butler was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Butler lived in Ceres from approximately 1946 to 1978 and served on the Ceres Volunteer Fire Department and Muster Team. He retired from Safeway stores Inc. before moving to Oregon.

Mr. Butler served as mayor of Halfway, Ore, and was a member of the Baker County Fair Board of Directors. He was also a reserve deputy sheriff for Baker County Mounted Posse. He served the Halfwar Fire Department. Walt and Elsie were EMT instructors/ ambulance diver, Walt also joined the Lions Club of Halfway Oregon, and in Yuma Az he joined the Elks Lodge.

He leaves behind his wife, Elsie Butler; seven children, Walt Butler III and Donnie Scoggins, both of Ceres, Christina Naylor of Yerington, Nev., Cindy Blomdahl of Modesto, Nanette Anderson of Tuolumne City, and Linda Naeger and Daryle Scoggins, both of Delhi; 13 grand Children, and 15 great-grandchildren.
