A memorial gathering is pending for Warren E. Hughes, 85, of Hughson. He died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
Lakewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born June 4, 1920, Mr. Hughes was a native of Davis and lived in Stanislaus County for 80 years. He was a retired orchard and vineyard farmer and grew almonds, peaches, walnuts and grapes. Mr. Hughes was a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley. He was a member of the Mother Lode Mineralogical Society, California Native Plant Society, past member of the Modesto Symphony and past president of the California Cling Peach Advisory Board. Mr. Hughes was an Army Veteran of World War II.
He leaves behind his wife, Judy Cole Hughes of Hughson; three children, David Hughes of Orange, Don R. Hughes of Cloverdale and Ann Hughes of Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada; his sister, Lynn McCarthy of Hughson; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret “Peggy” Hughes.
