Burial took place Friday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Wayne E. Johnson, 73, of Antioch. The former Hughson resident died Dec. 5, 2008 after a battle with cancer.
Pittsburg Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Born Jan. 27, 1935, Mr. Johnson was a native of Bard, Calif., and was raised in Hughson. While attending Hughson High School he met his sweetheart Wanda, whom he later married. Wayne served in the Marine Corps from 1953 to 1957. He worked for Sonoco in Pittsburg for 33 years and retired in 1990 as a superintendant. Mr. Johnson coached Pittsburg Little League and was an active member of the Pittsburg Swim Team.
He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Wanda Johnson of Antioch; his two children, Julie Johnson and Brad Johnson; his sister, Jeannie Rembusch; his grandson, Phillip Mutulo; his granddaughters, Jennifer Johnson, Megan Johnson, and Denay Johnson; and his great-grandchildren, Isabella and Jonah. He was preceded in death by parents Roy and Alva Johnson, brother Dick Johnson and sisters Dorothy Barnett and Lois Manley.
