Wayne O. Dobbins

A private graveside service was held for Wayne O. Dobbins, 85, of Modesto. He died April 21, 2010 at his home after a lengthy fight against cancer.

Born April 28, 1924 in Wichita Falls, Texas, Wayne moved to Okmulgee, Okla., when he was around two years old and joined the Navy when he was 17. After World War II ended, Wayne came to Ceres where his parents and sister had moved to and eventually setted in Modesto. Wayne worked for the Modesto Irrigation District as a lineman and foreman for 40 years. Mr. Dobbins enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting, long drives in the Sierras in his 1957 Chevy. Wayne was often eager to entertain friends with his John Wayne impression.

He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Joann Dobbins of Modesto; three sons, Charles Dobbins, Mark Dobbins and Jack Dobbins; two stepchildren, Mike Bogren and Linda Wright; four grandsons; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by son Joe Dobbins.
