A visitation will take place between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel for Wendell Dwight Keener Sr., 71, of Ripon. The former Ceres resident died April 30, 2008.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.

Lakewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born June 4, 1936, Mr Keener grew up in Ceres. He was a 12-year veteran of the Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran. He retired after 37 years of civil service and served 12 years on the Ripon Police Department VIPS program. Mr. Keener was a 20-year member of the American Legion, 17-year member of E Clampus Vitas Chapter 58 and a 20-year member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and sport shooting.

He leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Diane Keener of Ripon; his children, Michelle Creasy, Debbie Hixon, Leslie Keener, Wendell Keener Jr., Richard Keener and Eric Keener; his brother, James Keener; and 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
