A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel for Wilfred W. Martins, 88, of Ceres. He died of natural causes on Feb. 5, 2005.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

A graveside service will follow the funeral.

Born Aug. 19, 1916, Mr. Martins was a lifelong resident of Stanislaus County. He lived in Ceres for 80 years. He served in the Army Air Force and was a mechanic supervisor at Gallo Winery. He belonged to the Ceres Senior Citizens Club. Mr. Martins enjoyed camping, making jewelry and square dancing.

He leaves behind his three children, Joanna Jones of Florida, Linda Sipes of Iowa and William Martins of Oregon; three stepchildren, Carol Elinburge of Arizona, Jimmy Caropresso of Oregon and Michael Caropresso of Long Barn; two brothers, Harold Martins of Colusa and Oliver Martins of Ceres; two sisters, Jean Crumpe of Ceres and Susie Benskin of San Luis Obispo; and 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Martins and his parents, Joe and Mamie Martins.
