William A. Castleman

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel for William Arthur Castleman Jr., 87, of Modesto. He died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006 at Memorial Medical Center.

Born Nov. 20, 1918, Mr. Castleman was a native of Holly, Colo., and had lived in Modesto since 2001. He lived in Valley Home from 1919 to 1921, and previously lived in Ceres and Oakland. Mr. Castleman graduated from Ceres High School in 1937. He was a switchman for Southern Pacific Railroad for 38 years, and was a member of the Old Rails Club of Oakland. Mr. Castleman enjoyed horse racing, baseball and football.

He leaves behind his wife, Margaret Castleman of Modesto; three children, Pamela Mullins of Windsor, William Arthur Castleman III of Benicia, and Penny Gregorio of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Betty Smith and Beatrice Chamlin, both of Ceres; and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son James Castleman and two sisters.
