A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hughson, for William Byron Mullikin Jr., 78. He died Dec. 9, 2010.

Lakewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born July 13, 1932 in McKinney Texas, Bill was the only child of William Byron Mullikin and Donna Roma Davidson Mullikin. Bill came to California with his parents in 1942. He graduated from Fremont High School in Oakland. He entered the Navy in 1951 and served his country for four years. Bill married Darleen Foley in 1953 at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Oakland. Mr. Mullikin was a firefighter for 28 years retiring as a captain from the Hayward Fire Department. He was also an almond grower for almost 30 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Chapter Immaculate Heart Counsel #3604. Bill and Darleen were members of the Ceres Twisters Square Dancing Club. He enjoyed traveling.

He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Darleen Mullikin; his children, Martin Mullikin, Susan Laha, Marcia Perine and Maureen Mead; 13 grandchildren, Justin Mullikin, Darryl Mullikin, Ashley Mullikin, Adam Gunn, Joel Gunn, Amy Laha, Matthew Laha, Jamie Boyko, Julie Myatt, Michelle Perine, Sara Perine, Tanner Mead and Chloe Mead; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Odom and Ethan Boyko.
