William H. West

May 29, 1942 - Sept. 30, 2015

We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear William "Bill" West. He was at home surrounded by family when he succumbed to metastatic cancer. Finally at peace, Bill will be remembered for his kind and friendly nature.

Bill was born in Modesto and raised in Ceres. After graduating Turlock High, Bill spent four years in Europe with the U.S. Army as a decryption specialist. He then worked in L.A., San Francisco and Lompoc before moving to Salinas. His business career settled in gaming sales, where he gained the nickname "Bingo Bill." He was later owner and operator of West Promotions. His businesses included the Broadway Star Café and The Bingo Shoppe located in Broadway Bingo for the past 24 years.

Bill was always excited to travel. Happily, over the years, he was able to visit much of the continental United States, Hawaii, Alaska, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Middle East, S. America and China.
Bill is survived by his wife Jill Ann (nee McNair), his son Xavier, daughter Michelle and grandson Ethan all of Salinas. His daughter by marriage Wendi (Dan) Post of Springfield, Oregon. Bill also leaves his sister Johanna (Victor) Morrison of Ceres and brother Alan (Betty) of Modesto.

He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Edna West, and his brother Jerry.

The placement of his ashes will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 12 at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas. Friends are invited to a remembrance gathering at 1:30 p.m. to be held at Broadway Bingo, 19 W. Bernal Dr., Salinas.

Please, no flowers; a donation to your favorite charity in his name would be lovely.

Funeral arrangements by Struve and Laporte Funeral Home. Online condolences to www.struveandlaporte.com.
