Redistribution of income shouldn’t be state’s priority
Letter to editor

Editor, Ceres Courier,

Californian politicians often debate wealth inequality, but a more important question is overlooked: Who decides how wealth should be distributed?

Wealth is often the result of effort, discipline and risk-taking. If outcomes are equalized regardless of effort, the incentive to work hard and innovate weakens.

While some argue that unequal starting points limit success, focusing too heavily on redistribution can ignore personal responsibility. Providing support is important, but it should not replace the value of hard work.

The real issue is not inequality itself, but how to encourage both opportunity and accountability. A fair system should reward those who strive while still allowing others the chance to rise.
