Hughson will host a weekend of family fun during the 20th annual Hughson Fruit and Nut Festival set for May 17-18 in downtown.

This year there will be a $2 per adult admission fee charged at the gate, with children 12 and under admitted for free.

The event, sponsored by the Hughson Chamber of Commerce, will be honoring the armed forces. A special presentation honoring all veterans and military personnel will be staged at 1:15 p.m. Saturday on the main stage.

Festivities begin at 10 a.m. followed by a Saturday Parade at 11 a.m. Reigning Miss Hughson will lead this year's parade with floats, and cars carrying media personalities, local celebrities, dignitaries and business owners. The parade will start at Hughson High School and westbound on Whitmore Avenue, to Charles Street, onto Pine Street and down 7th Street, ending back at the high school.

More than 100 classic cars will be on display both days, giving owners a chance to show off to car lovers while having a chance to win an award. Radio station 97.5 KABX will be on hand playing the golden oldies for all to enjoy.

Hughson's farming community will be featuring an Agricultural Equipment Show, and a Farmers Market for locally grown fresh produce.

Over 100 commercial and arts and crafts booths will be offered as well as food vendors. An International Cuisine will feature an array of delicacies, ranging from Oriental, Mexican and Greek to good old fashion corn dogs, tri-tip sandwiches and more. Fruit pies, root beer floats, ice cream, shaved ice, old fashion kettle corn, and espresso will also be sold.

The Hughson festival will issue live entertainment both days. Joni Morris & the After Midnight Band will offer a tribute to Patsy Cline on Saturday afternoon.

In addition the festival will include a rock climbing wall, a fireman's mini-muster and for the children there will be a petting zoo, Kiddie Tractor Pull and carnival rides.

A special promotion is offered on ticket sales for carnival rides if purchased prior to the festival; an unlimited ride pass for either Friday night, all day Saturday or Sunday. Call the Hughson Chamber of Commerce Office, (209) 883-2800, for details.
