Booters win once, tie twice in Manteca

Ryan Cerny made his head coaching debut with the Ceres High varsity boys soccer team this past weekend.

"It was fulfilling," Cerny said.

The Bulldogs accumulated one win and two ties at the Sierra Classic on Saturday in Manteca.

"I'm pleased with how they did," Cerny said.

Ceres' Ricardo Cetina had 12 saves in goal.

"He was outstanding the whole tournament," Cerny said. "He was also an offensive threat."

The Bulldogs and West of Tracy battled to a 1-1 tie.

"We had so many opportunities," Cerny said. "We were hitting the post left and right."

Rosalio Antonio accounted for Ceres' lone goal. He scored in the first half.

Cetina had to make just two saves.

Ceres lost one of its top defenders to injury 10 minutes into the game.

Senior Brandon Hale dislocated his right knee cap while trying to clear a ball.

"Hopefully, we'll get Brandon back," Cerny said. "I'll find out this week."

The Bulldogs salvaged a 1-1 tie against the Manteca Buffalos.

A.J. Salgado evened the score in the second half.

Cetina had five saves.

The Bulldogs won their final game. They posted a 2-0 victory over the Orestimba Warriors.

Antonio and David Magana both scored in the second half.

Cetina had five saves.
