Ceres High School's revamped varsity boys soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to eight games last week.

The first-place Bulldogs beat Livingston and Patterson in Western Athletic Conference play.

Ceres High (9-2-1, 5-0-0) had a two-point lead over crosstown-rival Central Valley (12-0-1, 4-0-1) in the league standings as of Sunday.

"It's really exciting to see how much these kids have improved," Bulldogs head coach Koeurn Phe said. "It's surprising. We have a young group of players. They complement each other well. They push each other. They're gaining confidence."

Ceres High handled third-place Livingston 5-2 on the road last Wednesday.

Eberardo Aceves led the Bulldogs with three goals. He missed the previous game because of yellow-card accumulation.

Alexis Galindo and Thomas Rochas both scored once. Rochas was just promoted from the JV squad.

"Livingston is no slouch," Phe said. "They have a pretty good team."

Ceres High held on for a 2-1 victory over fourth-place Patterson on Monday, Sept. 26 at Ceres River Bluff Regional Park.

Galindo and Alfredo Arana both contributed one goal.

Abel Reyes tallied 13 saves.

The Tigers rallied after the Bulldogs stormed out to a 2-0 lead.

Ceres High will play at Central Valley this week (Oct. 3).

Unbeaten in league, the two teams have a combined 9-0-1 record.

The Hawks placed first in the WAC last year. Central Valley won back-to-back Valley Oak League titles before conference realignment took effect.

The Bulldogs upset the Hawks 2-0 for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV crown in 2009.

Ceres High and Central Valley have both advanced to the section-title game twice since 2008. The Hawks lost in the finals the past two seasons.

"It's amazing to see what both programs do on a yearly basis," Phe said. "It says a lot about the two programs and the type of players we have in this town."
