Bulldogs improve to 5-0 overall, 1-0 in WAC standings

Ceres High School's varsity girls tennis team remained undefeated on the year after rolling past Pacheco, Pitman and Gregori this past week.

"This is one of the best group of girls I've had in a while," Bulldogs head coach Bryan Harden said. "They're good kids. They're hardworking. They want to be out here."

Ceres High routed Pacheco 8-1 in Western Athletic Conference play on Thursday in Los Banos.

Marifer Ochoa defeated Jacqueline Carranza 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles play.

Kaylee Donovan defeated Jocelyn Reyes 6-2, 6-2 in No. 2 singles play.

Christin Ornells defeated Kristen Palmer 6-0, 6-3 in No. 3 singles play.

Karin Kainth defeated Janet Gonzalez 6-2, 6-1 in No. 4 singles play.

Viridiana Arroyo defeated Marlena Santos 6-1, 6-0 in No. 5 singles play.

Kim Ochoa and Lizzy Magana defeated Lorena and Itzel Franco 6-2, 6-2 in No. 1 doubles play.

Manpreet Bahia and Alexis Cummings defeated Adriana Madrigal and Zoe Cuevas 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles play.

Navneet Grewal and Manmeet Dhami defeated Bianey Gaxiola and Elexis Smith 6-3, 4-6, 10-3 in No. 3 doubles play.

Ceres High had its way with visiting Pitman last Wednesday.

The Bulldogs won, 7-2.

Donovan defeated Emily Arnold 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 singles play.

Ornells defeated Midi Kivihara 6-0, 6-2 in No. 3 singles play.

Kainth defeated Bri Wheeler 7-5, 6-2 in No. 4 singles play.

Magana and Kim Ochoa defeated Brook Duyst and Juli Harris 6-2, 7-5 in No. 1 doubles play.

Bahia and Cummings defeated Gaby Kashew and Taylor Zavala 6-1, 6-3 in No. 2 doubles play.

Grewal and Dhami defeated Sally Acosta and Mariah Anderson 6-4, 6-4 in No. 3 doubles play.

Ceres High collected a 6-3 victory over Gregori on Tuesday, Aug. 30

in Modesto.

Donovan defeated Vanessa Chavez 6-2, 6-3 in No. 2 singles play.

Ornells defeated Kailani Ridenour 6-2, 6-2 in No. 3 singles play.

Kainth defeated Harfirjan Kahlan 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 in No. 4 singles play.

Arroyo defeated Gaby Angel 6-3, 6-4 in No. 5 singles play.

Magana and Kim Ochoa defeated Melanie Rosales and Kat Harny 6-0, 6-3 in No. 1 doubles play.

Bahia and Cummings defeated Alexis Maldonado and Melissa Mota 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles play.

The Bulldogs won by default at No. 6 singles.

Ceres High improved to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the WAC standings.

The Bulldogs are competing with a revamped roster.

Coach Harden was forced to make lineup changes after three returning starters decided not to play this year.

"Honestly, I can't believe it," Bryan said while talking about his team's early-season success. "They're all doing a great job."

Ceres High will face its toughest test of the WAC season this Thursday. The Bulldogs play host to 2010 WAC-runner-up Central Catholic at 3 p.m.

"It will be interesting," Harden said. "Hopefully, we'll compete."
