Ceres High assistant boys basketball coach Julio Marquez provided words of encouragement following his team's rough outing during Modesto Junior College summer-league play.

"Keep your heads up," he said. "We're going to get better."

The Bulldogs lost via blowout to Weston Ranch, West and Pitman on June 16.

Binder Atwal, Ceres High's top player, did not play because he was sick.

The Bulldogs lost the core of this past season's Western Athletic Conference championship squad to graduation in June, including league-MVP John Dhillon and first-teamer Edgar Lopez.

"We're going to be good," Ceres High head coach Brian de la Porte said. "It's just going to take some time. It's a learning process."

Harman Chung scored a team-high 10 points during the Bulldogs' 59-16 loss to West.

Ceres High challenged Pitman before sustaining a 38-13 loss.

Angel Garcia led the Bulldogs with five points.

Weston Ranch routed Ceres High by more than 20 points.

The Bulldogs dropped to 0-6 in the Modesto JC summer-league standings.

"We're just trying to improve every game," de la Porte said. "That's what we care about."
