Bulldogs win twice in water polo

Ceres High School's varsity boys water polo team defeated its first two Valley Foothill Conference opponents this past week.

The Bulldogs topped Central Catholic 24-7 in Ceres on Monday, Sept. 13 and Kimball 17-7 on Wednesday in Tracy.

"Everybody got a decent amount of playing time," head coach Tim Reyes said.

All six of Ceres High's starting field players scored against Central Catholic, including Nick Serratos, Zach Zamaroni, Victor Cruz, Jason Stanhope, Dylan Hines and Kody Flifet.

Serratos poured in a career-high 10 goals.

Zamaroni, Cruz, Stanhope and Hines finished with two goals apiece.

Fliflet had one goal.

Reserve Mark Dollard added three goals. Bobby Bahia had one.

Goalkeeper Kenny Carroll made 10 saves.

Serratos scored nine times against the Jaguars.

Cruz and Zamaroni collected three and two goals, respectively.

Stanhope, Dollard and Le Hong all scored once.

Carroll had 12 blocks.

Ahead 11-2 at halftime, coach Reyes emptied his bench. He also made sure none of his

veterans took any shots on offense.

"I tried to get the younger players more experience," he said.

CHS GIRLS UNBEATEN

Ceres High School's varsity girls water polo team faced little resistance during its VFC opener.

The Bulldogs dominated from start to finish en route to a 16-3 victory over Central Catholic on Monday, Sept. 13 in Ceres.

Three different players scored four goals each for the Bulldogs, including Courtney Frampton, Courtney Craig and Haley Fisicaro.

Cassidy Hines contributed three goals.

Kristi Hopkins scored once.

Goalie Allison Ghimenti had five blocks.

Ceres High 11, Kimball 3

The Bulldogs defeated the Jaguars 11-3 in conference play on Wednesday in Tracy.

Frampton had a game-high four goals.

Craig and Fisicaro scored three and two times, respectively.

Rebecca Wright added one goal.

Ghimenti made seven saves.

Bulldogs 8, Johansen 7

Host Ceres High edged former Modesto Metro Conference rival Johansen 8=7 in non-league action on Thursday.

Ghimenti had a standout game at goalkeeper. She blocked 12 shots.

Frampton led the way on offense with four goals.

Fisicaro tallied two goals.

Craig and Wright both scored once.
