Central Valley JV girls finally win

With head coach Kelly Cole out of town on a college visit, Central Valley High School's junior-varsity girls basketball team notched its first Valley Oak League victory on the final day of the season.

The Bulldogs snapped a 13-game losing streak with a 39-22 victory over crosstown rival Ceres High at Phil de la Porte Gym on Thursday.

Samantha Mustaca had a game-high eight points for Central Valley, which finished in a last-place tie with the Bulldogs in conference play at 1-13. Amanda Lopez and Jessica Rodriguez scored seven and six points, respectively. Gigi Sahota and Tiffany Reeves tallied five points each. Ashley Armenio contributed four points. Giselle Villegas and Casandra Armenta chipped in two points apiece.

"I'm glad the team we got to beat was our rivals," Mustaca said. "We got to make our school proud."

Sheron Dikousman had a team-high six points for Ceres High. Sabrina Rinsamout and Ashley Thiner finished with five points each. Alyssa Eudy and Angie Prak chipped in four and two points, respectively.

The Bulldogs trailed by just four points at intermission.

Central Valley outscored Ceres High 20-7 in the second half, including 12-2 in the third quarter. Rodriguez's 3-pointer put the Hawks ahead 31-17 heading into the fourth.

"I'm happy," Mustaca said. "Today we played as a team. We finally worked together."
