The Ceres 12-and-under all-star baseball team brought home the championship banner from the 2012 West Zone-Northern California-Central Valley Bronco Section Tournament last month.

Top-seeded Ceres compiled a perfect 4-0 record in Modesto.

The six-team tournament was staged July 5-8 at Bel Passi.

"It's a big accomplishment," head coach Nino Mendez said. "The kids are just having fun."

The Ceres All-Stars upped their record versus the Ceres Blaze to 5-0 with a 14-3 victory in the finals on July 8.

Eric Alvarado, Andrew Badillo and Andrew Nowaya all hit one homer during title game.

Alex Escobar, Angel Mendez and Carlos Pena pitched.

The All-Stars scored six runs in the top of the fourth inning. "Every time we play the Blaze, we have a really good game," Mendez said.

The Ceres All-Stars topped Bel Passi Red 19-9, Brentwood 15-2 and Bel Passi White 14-5.

The Ceres All-Stars totaled 62 runs at the Central Valley Section Tournament.

David Nichols crushed five homers.

Alvarado belted three homers.

Adrian Magdaleno had one homer.

"We have a really good hitting team up and down our lineup," Mendez said.

The Ceres All-Stars roster consists of Alvarado, Badillo, Nowaya, Escobar, Mendez, Pena, Nichols, Magdaleno, Brock Dewitt, Wyatt Kee, Joshua Madariaga, Izzy Anaya and Orlando Leon.

Nowaya, Escobar and Mendez helped lead the Ceres All-Stars to the 9-and-under section crown at Morgan Hill in 2010.

"The majority of our kids are 11," Nino Mendez said. "We're playing up. There's good chemistry on the team. The kids have a lot of heart and battle in them."
