Ceres Hawks do well at Beyer tourney
The Ceres Hawks wrestling club competed in the SJWA Beyer Freestyle tournament on Saturday, April 3.

Ceres had three individual champions.

Curtis Hulstine (Junior Class, 135 pounds) beat Julian Terry of the Golden Valley Matcats (7-0, 6-1).

Elias Hernandez (Schoolboy/girls-98) beat Delhi's Gerardo Santana (fall, 1:13), Lodi Firecats' Dalton Dunning (fall, 2:00) and Ripon Tribe Wrestling's Jordan Satterlee (fall, 1:23).

Joshua Tidmarsh (Bantam-65) beat Golden Valley Matcats' Nicolas Saldana (fall, 0:15), West Fresno's Mason Salazar (7-0, 3-4, 0:38) and Ripon's Aaron Wood (fall, 1:06).

The Hawks also had five second-place finishes and three thirds.

Trace Hendrix (Cadet-189), Joey Bettencourt (Cadet-91), Nasson Sanchez Jr. (Intermediate-80), Brandon Senseney (Novice-70) and Trinity Hernandez (Intermediate-55) all took second.

Hendrix defeated Stockton Elite's Katie Craft (6-0, 5-0).

Bettencourt defeated Wrestern Sierra's Neil Macdiarmid (3-0, 0-5, 4-3).

Sanchez defeated Merced Bears' David Granados (7-0, 7-0).

Senseney defeated Ripon's Seth Travis (fall, 1:59) and Hawk teammate Luis Saucedo (0-5, 0:22).

Hernandez defeated Golden Valley Matcats' Jaret Mello (1-6, 3-2, 6-6) and Ceres teammate Angelo Sanchez (fall, 0:49).

Frankie Guzman (Cadet-130), Claudia Martinez (Novice-75), Luis Saucedo (Novice-70) and Adrian Ortiz (Novice-95) placed third in their respective weight divisions.

Guzman defeated Stockton Elite's Jose Perez ((7-0, 9-2), Lodi Firecats' Michael Hendry (4-3, 5-3) and Ripon's Taylor Fugit (7-0, 8-0).

Martinez defeated Ripon Tribe Wrestling's Bobby Shink (6-0, 7-0).

Saucedo defeated Ripon's Seth Travis (fall, 1:12).

Ortiz lost to Ripon Tribe Wrestling's Gabriel Beltran (fall, 1:13) and Core's Brett Stewart (fall, 1:00).
