Ceres runners sweep Beyer

The Ceres High varsity cross country team swept the Beyer Patriots at Legion-Tuolumne River Regional Park on Wednesday.

In the girls race, Ceres placed four runners in the top five in beating Beyer 21-37.

Karrah Brown took first. She clocked 21 minutes, 14 seconds on the 3.12-mile course.

Sophomores Nicole Laranjo and Heather Jones took third (22:05) and fourth (22:56), respectively, for the Bulldogs, who improved to 2-1 in the Modesto Metro Conference (MMC).

Yvette Castilla (21:49) and Crystal Esparza (23:24) took second and fifth, respectively, for the Patriots, who fell to 1-2 in the league standings.

In the boys race, the Bulldogs defeated the Patriots by 12 points, 22-34.

Ceres improved to 1-2 in the MMC.

Junior Benny Perez took first on the 3.12-mile course in 18:31. Senior Jordan Gonzalez took third in 19:26. Junior Nick Gardner took fifth in 19:32.

Brad Serpa (18:38) and Jacob Croasdale (19:32) took second and fourth, respectively, for the Patriots, who fell to 0-3 in league.
