The Dima Ferrel-led Ceres Sizzle 14-and-under travel softball team placed at another tournament.

Top-seeded Ceres compiled a 3-2 record on its way to a runner-up finish in the Silver Division of the Worth-Westside Bullets Summer Classic Tournament at Pedretti Sports Complex in Turlock.

The Aug. 12-13 event was staged in 100-plus-degree weather.

"It was hot out there," said Ferrel, Sizzle head coach.

Ceres lost 8-2 to the Livingston Velocity in the championship game on Aug. 12.

The Sizzle beat Chowchilla Lightning 9-2 in the semifinals.

"Livingston has a very good team," Ferrel said. "We didn't get any hits until the last inning."

Ceres won two of three games in pool play on Aug. 11.

The Sizzle topped the host Bullets (8-2) and Lightning (13-0).

Ceres lost 10-6 to the Hayward Mavericks.

The Sizzle have placed first three times, second once and third twice this summer.

"I'm very pleased," Ferrel said. "I knew we'd be competitive. But they've exceeded my expectations."
