CHS athletes fare well at league finals

Five members of Ceres High School's varsity track and field program won titles at the Western Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, May 7 in Patterson.

"We did awesome," Bulldogs head coach Bill Curlis said.

Ashley Thiner placed first in the high jump (4-8), second in the long jump (15-83/4) and sixth in the triple jump (29-63/4) while competing in the girls division.

Crystal Duran placed first in the 400 (1:04.45), and third in the 300 hurdles (51.04) and long jump (15-8).

Cecilia Carretero placed first in the 800 (2:31.16) and third in the 1,600 (5:46.72).

Elizabeth Nunes placed fifth in the 400 (1:18.54) and 800 (3:09.59).

Dia Borden placed fifth in the 1,600 (6:17.77) and 3,200 (14:47.56).

Sophia Garcia placed seventh in the 200 (32.99) and 13th in the 100 (15.93).

Violeta Verduzco placed seventh in the 300 hurdles (1:06.97).

Jasbir Mand placed seventh in the 100 (15.02).

Yvette Huizar placed seventh in the triple jump (25-111/2) and eighth in the long jump (12-11).

Ayanna Williams placed eighth in the 100 (15.11).

Lourdes Razo placed eighth in the shot put (25-71/2) and 11th in the discus (70-6).

Kiana Crawford placed 10th in the shot put (24-41/2) and discus (73-1).

Viviana Ramirez placed 13th in the discus (48-5) and 15th in the shot put (20-81/2).

Le Hong placed first in the 110 hurdles (15.71) and 300 hurdles (41.66) in the boys portion of the meet.

Jacob Meyer placed first in the high jump (5-10), sixth in the triple jump (37-101/2) and 13th in the long jump (17-61/4).

The Bulldogs' 4x400 relay team of Hong, Jose Perez, Ryan Ramirez and Humberto Luna placed second (3:45.44).

Austin Payne placed third in the 300 hurdles (43.39) and sixth in the 110 hurdles (17.65).

Perez placed fourth in the 400 (55.68).

Ramirez placed sixth in the 400 (58.13) and 11th in the 200 (25.79).

Luna placed seventh in the 400 (58.17).

Josh Sasamoto placed seventh in the triple jump (37-9), and eighth in the long jump (19-53/4) and 200 (25.15).

Juan Botello placed eighth in the 3,200 (13:28.28) and 19th in the 1,600 (5:55.27).

Max Espinosa placed ninth in the shot put (34-1).

Michael Johnson placed 10th in the 800 (2:33.95) and 18th in the 1,600 (5:52.07).

Marc Sampaio placed 14th in the 100 (12.37).

Matt Mey placed 15th in the 1,600 (5:20.91).
