Approximately 18 players suited up for the Ceres High boys summer basketball team at the beginning of the season.

Just 10 Bulldogs, including seniors Bryant Hill, Brad Muniz and Joe Gallo, juniors Ross Tate, Kevin Dupree, DaAron Grays, Steven Downs, Ray Green and Andrew Chipponeri, and sophomore Brett Sayad, were invited to the Bulldogs' final tournament, held in San Diego, July 15-17.

"They put in the most time," said Ceres coach Jason Martin.

The Bulldogs compiled a 3-3 record at the UC San Diego High School Boys Basketball Camp Tournament, which featured 60 teams.

"We played some real good competition," Martin said.

The Bulldogs compiled a 1-1 record in a field of eight in tournament play. They lost by 15 points to Carlsbad and edged West View of San Diego by three points on July 17. Ceres overcame a 15-point deficit against West View. The Bulldogs trailed 19-4 early in the first half.

"That was a good way to end our summer league," Martin said.

Ceres went 2-2 in pool play. The Bulldogs lost by 12 points to Bonita Vista and defeated Whittier Christian by four points on July 16. On July 15, they lost by six points to Bullard and beat Cerritos by eight points.

Ceres' players and coaches stayed in dorms at UC San Diego. They also relaxed at the beach between games in 80-degree weather. "The kids had a good time," Martin said.

Ceres' summer schedule included 34 games. The Bulldogs went 7-4 in the Modesto Junior College League. They won six of 12 games in the Delta College League.
