CHS, CV runners compete at sub-section meet

Ceres High's varsity boys cross country team finished ahead of crosstown-rival Central Valley while competing at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Sub-Section Championships on Nov. 3 at Frogtown in Angels Camp.

Judas Chavarin, Ryan Gustin, Kevin Ramirez, Manuel Hernandez and Edgar Torres helped lead the Bulldogs to a 20th-place finish (609 points).

Chavarin took 88th with a time of 18 minutes, 50 seconds on the 3-mile course.

Gustin (19:04), Ramirez (20:33), Hernandez (20:58) and Torres (21:13) placed 97th, 130th, 143rd and 151st, respectively.

The Hawks finished 28th (841) in the team standings.

Michael Collins (21:04), Francisco Gradilla (21:08), Giovanni Barajas (25:11), Nick Gonzalez (30:15), and Miguel Rodriguez (30:15) placed 147th, 149th, 180th, 182nd and 183rd, respectively.

Ceres High's and Central Valley's varsity girls teams had a total of six runners compete at Divisionals.

Cecilia Carretero (60th, 22:37), Karina Ruiz (114th, 25:18) and Aurora Almonte (151st, 33:35) led the Bulldogs.

Citlalli Soltero (135th, 27:32), Karina Miranda (142nd, 29:34) and Laura Aguilar (133rd, 27:30) paced the Hawks.

Ceres High's junior-varsity boys team placed 10th (305) in the Division III-IV-V competition.

The Bulldogs' top-five finishers were Joao Moita (57th, 21:36), Jacob Edwards (60th, 21:55), Tim Lakomy (61st, 22:18), Matthew Thornberry (63rd, 22:58) and Manpreet Dhami (64th, 23:04).

Central Valley's Favian Castellanos (64th, 14:04), Josiah Lopez (99th, 17:13), Gurpal Samra (100th, 18:09), and Ceres High's Josh Moita (82nd, 14:54) participated in the Division-III sophomore boys race.

Lisette Carretero (16th, 14:50), Jeanette Torrez (42nd, 16:16), Karina Torrez (61st, 17:04) and Tonia Garcia (102nd, 19:33) led Ceres High's frosh-soph girls squad.

Central Valley's Jose Bastidas (33rd, 14:01), Angel Castaneda (52nd, 15:01) and Diego Andrade (69th, 16:45), and Ceres High's Erik Collins (41st, 14:23) and Cameron Thatcher (44th, 14:31) competed in the frosh boys division.
