Ceres High School's varsity girls golf team broke into the win column for the second time this season last week.

The Bulldogs fired a season-best 231 en route to a one-stroke victory over Weston Ranch on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at River Oaks Golf Course.

"The girls are pretty excited about it," Ceres High head coach Carlos Maldonado said. "I'm happy for them. We're usually up in the 250s. Everyone has improved by a few strokes."

Arleen Xayasone carded a 10-over-par 27 on the front nine course for the Bulldogs (2-7).

Brittany Padilla parred the third, fifth and eighth holes en route to shooting her best round of the year at River Oaks. The senior has lowered her scores considerably since adjusting her grip.

"It took a while to convince her to change it," Maldonado said. "She's a softball player. She grabbed the club like a baseball bat. Once she got real comfortable with it, things started to change for the positive. I wish she was a sophomore so we could keep her for a few more years."

Bulldog teammates Ashley Delagrande (40), Cristina Raya (58) and Lydia Hernandez (58) can also take part of the credit for last week's victory. Hernandez outshot Weston Ranch's fifth player.

"Most of the girls improved from the previous match," Maldonado said.
