Ceres High School's varsity wrestling program experienced individual and team success while competing at the Western Athletic Conference championships this past weekend in Ceres.

The Bulldogs racked up 161.5 points and edged out host Central Catholic (160.5) for second place at the seven-team event.

Seven of Ceres High's 14 grapplers advanced to the finals, including Gabe Balderas, Nick Moran, Nick Santibanez, David Cisneros, Eric Bejaran, Ruben Sanchez and Rudy Gonzalez.

"That's very impressive," head coach Jon Nowicki said. "A lot of the guys are underclassmen."

Balderas, Moran, Santibanez, Cisneros, Bejaran, Sanchez and Gonzalez will be joined by Bulldog teammates Brandon Christeson, Armando Morales, Ivan Raya and Erick Garcia on Friday when they travel to Weston Ranch High School to vie for Masters berths at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV tournament.

Balderas, Moran, Santibanez, Cisneros, Bejaran, Sanchez, Gonzalez, Christeson, Morales and Raya finished in the top four in their respective weight divisions at the WAC meet.
