Ceres High's and Central Valley's varsity girls golf teams competed at the Western Athletic Conference Mid-Year Tournament on Monday, Sept. 27 at Dryden Park Golf Course.

Arleen Xayasone, Robin White, Kelli Ahart and Brittany Valadez helped lead the Bulldogs to a third-place finish.

Ceres High posted a team score of 482.

The Bulldogs topped Patterson (497), Central Valley (511), Pacheco (572) and Los Banos (withdrew).

Central Catholic (419) and Livingston (449) placed first and second, respectively.

"I'm happy with how everybody did," head coach Randy Cerny said. "All four of our golfers were competitive. They're developing a love for the game. That's something they'll have for the rest of their lives."

Xayasone tied for fourth in the individual standings with Central Catholic's Emily Raspo. They posted identical rounds 106.

"Arleen had a pretty good day," Cerny said. "She could have been in contention if she played one or two holes differently."

White and Ahart carded 116 and 129, respectively.

"Robin and Kelli are developing into really good players," Cerny said.

Valadez fired a 131.

"She's getting better each day," Cerny said.

Central Valley's Martina Bernal, Lizette Martinez, Claudia Diaz and Wynter Bratenas shot 115, 125, 128 and 143, respectively.

Central Catholic's Mary Webb won the individual title (99).

Livingston's Sara Cervantes and Central Catholic's Joanna Nguyen finished second (100) and third (105), respectively.

"I think we have a lot we can improve on," Cerny said. "We'll be more competitive the second half of the season."
