CHS runners place at Sierra event

Ceres High participated in the Third Annual Sierra Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Legion-Tuolumne River Regional Park in Modesto.

Karrah Brown, Katie Lutes, Laura Morales, Elizabeth Miranda, Melanie Casey and Nicole Caselli led the varsity girls team to a sixth-place finish. Riverbank, Sierra and Turlock placed first, second and third, respectively.

Brown placed seventh overall. The senior completed the 3.12-mile course in 21 minutes, 9 seconds. Lutes, Morales, Miranda, Casey and Caselli placed 27th (24:37), 35th (25:36), 37th (25:46), 38th (25:56) and 49th (30:41), respectively.

Benny Perez, Darryl Lopez, Ramsey Magana, Chad Hurt, Henry Shamoeil, John Beattie and Eddie Espinoza led the varsity boys team to an 11th-place finish. Roosevelt, Riverbank and St. Mary's placed first, second and third, respectively.

Perez placed 12th overall. The senior completed the 3.12-mile course in 17:56.

Lopez, Magana, Hurt, Shamoeil, Beattie and Espinoza placed 37th (19:20), 65th (20:01), 71st (20:14), 74th (20:16), 80th (20:37) and 97th (23:09), respectively.

Caitlin Cerny, Mayra Abreo, Jennifer Perez, Norma Rodriguez-Torre and Erica Castejon led the frosh-soph girls team to an eighth-place finish. Turlock, St. Mary's and Buhach Colony placed first, second and third, respectively.

Cerny, Abreo, Perez, Rodriguez-Torre and Castrejon placed 30th (14:52), 31st (14:53), 32nd (15:02), 52nd (16:50) and 55th (17:00), respectively. - By DALE BUTLER / Staff reporter of the Ceres (Calif.) Courier
