CHS tennis team collects pair of preseason wins

Ceres High played host to Downey in a varsity girls tennis scrimmage on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

The Bulldogs' starting lineup swept five of six matches.

"They still looked a little rusty," head coach Bryan Harden said. "That's expected because most of them haven't been playing year-round."

McKenzy Harden, the two-time Valley Oak League singles champion, cruised to a 6-0 victory over Courtney Nelson.

Angie Prak eased to a 6-0 win against Eme Crimmel in No. 2 singles play.

Karina Magana defeated Mika Domingo 6-2 in No. 3 singles play.

Kaycee Creek and Ryan Norton teamed up to beat Emily Gianelli and Brittney Cross 6-2 in No. 1 doubles action.

Kelly Gallagher and Christin Ornells topped Lia Farakis and Hilda Rodriguez 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.

Rachel Stump and Jessica Vega lost 6-4 to Myra Crimmel and Kelly Chea at No. 2 doubles.

Thunder no match for Ceres

The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 preseason with a 6-11/2 victory over visiting Buhach Colony on Saturday at Ceres High School

"We won all but one match," coach Harden said.

McKenzy Harden swept Rebecca Brown (6-2, 6-1).

Prak beat Megan Ballard (6-4, 6-1).

Magana had little trouble with Jennifer Taylor (6-0, 6-2).

Stump and Ornells handled Laura Macintosh and Selena Faulkner (6-2, 6-2).

Vega and Gallagher bested Vanessa Amezcun and Shannon Kirn (6-1, 6-4).

Norton and Creek lost 7-6 (7), 6-4 to Jesslyn Arzamendi and Jennifer Serifin.
