CHS wins 400 free relay

The Ceres High boys swimming team edged the Atwater Falcons 92-90 in Ceres on Thursday.

The Bulldogs would have lost if they didn't win the final event.

"It came down to the last leg of the 400 free relay," said Ceres senior swimmer Gordon Brogdon.

Eric Scudder, Mike Polovin, Jason Weststeyn and Brogdon won the event in 3:40.50. Atwater's foursome completed the race in 3:42.14.

"We just got the right relay together," said Ceres coach Sue Garcia.

Ceres improved to 2-1 in the Central California Conference standings.

Atwater fell to 1-2 in the CCC.

The Bulldogs won seven of 11 events.

"The kids did awesome," Garcia said.

Brogdon, J.C. Reed, Scudder and Jarrett Mills won the 200 medley relay in 1:50.55.

Scudder won the 200 IM in 2:13.01 and 500 free in 5:22.18.

Brogdon won the 100 free in 52.41 seconds and 100 back in 59.18 seconds.

Weststeyn won the 100 fly in 1:02.84.

Ceres also finished second four times.

Weststeyn placed second in the 200 free in 2:04.62.

Dmitry Polovin placed second in the 100 fly in 1:06.05.

Reed placed second in the 100 breast in 1:15.49

Weststeyn, Reed, Mills and Dwight Braverman placed second in the 200 free relay in 1:41.61.
