Ceres High's varsity boys basketball team held its first scrimmage of the 2009-10 season this past weekend.

Ceres' Bulldogs beat Tracy's Bulldogs 49-41 Saturday afternoon at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

"We had five hard days of practice," head coach Brian de la Porte said. "It was good to see the kids play against another team. The effort was there. We're not quite in shape yet, but we will be."

Justin Canatsy, Beau Pimentel, Lance Hunter, Mark Schwark and John Dhillon, Ceres High's starting lineup, combined to score 29 points.

Canatsy led the way with nine points.

Pimentel had eight points.

Hunter and Schwark both collected five points.

Dhillon added two points.

Bulldog reserves Edgar Lopez, Katero Lebeau and Vineel Kumar contributed eight, seven and five points, respectively.

"I didn't see a huge drop from our first five to our second five," de la Porte said. "We just got to get better. Hopefully, we do."
