Mae Hensley Jr. High’s wrestling program enjoyed one of its most successful seasons to date in 2023. 

The Warriors continued their run of excellence this year.

“The kids deserve all the credit,” Mae Hensley leader Steve Festa said. “They were up for the challenge. It was a special season. They put in the work and got the results from it.”

The Warriors extended their unbeaten streak to 21 matches versus conference dual opponents.

Mae Hensley topped Somerset, Ustach, El Portal, Salida, Creekside, Blaker-Kinser, Whitmore Charter, Cesar Chavez, Dutcher, Turlock and Hilmar en route to compiling a perfect 11-0 record this year.

The Warriors won all 10 of their duals last season.

Host Mae Hensley also finished in first place at its Mayhem Tournament for the second year in a row.

The Warriors had multiple champions and placers at the Savage and El Portal tournaments.

“Our schedule was tough,” Festa said. “We had by far the best team. I saw a lot of courage and heart.”

Mae Hensley piled up 306 points at its home tournament on March 2.

In the varsity boy division, Alijah Jackson placed first with a 2-0 record at 95 pounds.

Jeremy Alvarez placed third with a 1-2 record at 125 pounds.

James Roark placed third with an 0-2 record at 90 pounds.

In the girls division, Abrianna Bautista placed first with a 3-0 record at 115 pounds.

Jazlyn Cisneros placed first with a 3-0 record at 125 pounds.

Madelyn Morales placed first with a 3-0 record at 130 pounds.

Ava Velasquez placed second with a 2-1 record at 110 pounds.

Sophia Santillian placed second with a 2-1 record at 125 pounds.

Avril Gaona placed second with a 1-1 record in the 70-85 pound class.

Ella Bullock placed second with a 1-1 record in the 185-210 pound class.

Cristal Silva placed second with an 0-2 record at 120 pounds.

Abbie Schultz placed third with a 3-2 record at 135 pounds.

In the junior-varsity boys division, Jonathan Moody placed first with a 3-0 record at 135 pounds.

Isaiah Villamarim placed first with a 2-0 record at 145 pound.

Anthony Aldana placed second with a 3-1 record at 130 pounds.

Adrian Bautista placed second with a 1-1 record at 140 pounds.

Matthew Khoshaba placed second with a 1-2 record in the 235-250-pound class.

Martin Bonilla placed third with a 3-1 record at 185 pounds.

Moises Gonzalez placed third with a 1-2 record at 110 pounds.

Alfredo Castillo placed third with an 0-2 record at 115 pounds.

Michael Landers placed third with an 0-2 record at 145 pounds.

Tanner Brister, Jazlyn Cisneros, Jonathon Moody, Abbie Schultz, Elijah Jackson, Michael King, Arthur Louis, James Roark, Abrianna Bautista, Ella Bullock, Gabriella Cole, Ava Velasquez, Jeremy Alvarez, Martin Bonilla, Alfredo Castillo, Jayden Chapa, Michael Landers, Eli Osuna, Tyris Williams, Avril Gaona, Emmalina Morales and Sharon Wheeling all finished in the top three in their respective weight classes at the El Portal Tournament on March 9 in Escalon.

Brister, Cisneros, Moody and Schultz won titles.

Jackson, King, Louis, Roark, Bautista, Bullock, Cole and Velasquez took second.

Alvarez, Bonilla, Castillo, Chapa, Landers, Osuna, Williams, Gaona, Morales and Wheeling placed third.

The Warriors had 10 individuals finish first, two second and 10 third at the Savage Tournament on Feb. 24.

Jeremy Alvarez, Jesus Alejandro, Abrianna Bautista, Alijah Jackson, Michael King, Arthur Louis, Maddie Morales, Abbie Schultz, Eli Swartz, Ava Velasquez claimed championships.

Adrian Bautista and Andrew Holt both placed second.

Anthony Aldana, Martin Bonilla, Ella Bullock, Alfredo Castillo, Avril Gaona, Gabriel Raya, James Roark, Cristal Silva, Elijah Villamaria and Sharon Wheeling all took third.

Mae Hensley’s roster consisted of 38 wrestlers, including Abrianna Bautista, Ella Bullock, Jazlyn Cisneros, Gabriella Cole, Avril Gaona, Madelyn Morales, Emmalina Morales, Sophia Santillian, Abbie Schultz, Cristal Silva, Ava Velasquez, Sharon Wheeling, Neftali Yepez, Anthony Aldana, Jesus Alejandro, Jeremy Alvarez, Adrian Bautista, Martin Bonilla, Tanner Brister, Alfredo Castillo, Jayden Chapa, Moises Gonzalez, Andrew Holt, Jackson Horton, Alijah Jackson, Matthew Khoshaba, Michael King, Michael Landers, Arthur Louis, Jonathon Moody, Johan Navarro, Eli Osuna, Gabriel Raya, James Roark, Eli Swartz, Elijah Villamaria, Isaiah Villamarim and Tyris Williams.

Madelyn Morales, Abbie Schultz and Eli Swartz were team captains.

The Warriors had three stat keepers in Alana Festa, Samarah Newell and Elly Petty.

Mae Hensley had two coaches in Festa and Josh Swartz. 

Ceres High wrestling leaders Adam Borges and Curtis Husltine also assisted.
