The Ceres Cowboys youth football and cheer organization will kick off the 2014 campaign this Sunday at Central Valley High School.

The Cowboys registered 105 football players and 45 cheerleaders, aged 6-14, for their 34th season.
Members practice Monday through Friday, 6-8 p.m., at Blaker-Kinser Jr. High.

"We have a strong foundation," said John Thompson, Cowboys president/varsity football head coach. "That will keep our organization around."

Michael Amie, Langston Kennedy Sr. and Andre Smith have been tapped to fill coaching positions for Ceres' lower-level football teams.

Leticia Enrique (varsity), Brandi Conley (junior varsity), Cassandra Young (novice) and Tanya Taylor (junior novice) will direct Ceres' cheer squads.

The Cowboys are members of the Delta Youth Football League.
Ceres will open the season against the visiting Delta Patriots of Brentwood on Sunday.

Varsity, junior varsity, novice and junior novice play at 4 p.m., 2 p.m., 12 p.m. and 10 a.m., respectively.

"Every level is going to be competitive," Thompson said.
