Sonora put a halt to Central Valley High School's two-game winning streak in sophomore boys basketball last Friday in Ceres.

The Hawks fell 48-40 to the Wildcats in Valley Oak League play.

Center Andrew Betschart scored a team-high 18 points in the loss for Central Valley, which dropped to 3-8 in the conference standings.

"He's coming along really well for a big man," head coach Ryan Edwards said.

Greg Tripp contributed eight points.

Johnathon Martinez and Josh Claudio both tallied four points.

Ben Magana and Cameron Thornton had three and two points, respectively.

Anthony Stavrianoudakis added one point.

The Hawks converted 10 of their 18 foul shots (56 percent) during the league contest.

Central Valley faced a 37-18 deficit at the break as it committed 20-plus turnovers.

Sonora accounted for 24 of the 32 third-quarter points.

The Hawks got back into the game by outscoring the Wildcats 22-11 over the final 16 minutes.

"I was happy with my team's performance in the second half," Edwards said. "They started working as a unit. They calmed down."
