Ceres High School's varsity boys soccer squad defeated Pacheco and lost to Patterson in Western Athletic Conference play last week.

The Bulldogs moved to 3-1-0 in the league standings.

"We're young," head coach Javier Mercado said. "We have six sophomores on our team. We'll get better."

Ceres High routed Pacheco 6-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Bulldog Stadium.

Thomas Rochas collected two goals and two assists.

Alfredo Arana had two goals and one assist.

Cristopher Torres and Michael Quintanilla both scored once.

Cesar Espinoza and Cristian Cabrales contributed one assist each.

Abel Reyes made four saves.

Reyes had nine saves during Ceres High's 2-0 loss at Patterson on Thursday.

Hawks win twice

Central Valley High School's varsity boys soccer team added to its win total this past week.

The Hawks (14-1-1, 2-0-1) beat Livingston and Franklin.

Visiting Central Valley shut out WAC-rival Livingston 3-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 18.

Anthony Calvo, Ozzie Ramos and Diego Duran all scored once for the Hawks.

Goalkeeper David Saucedo had six saves.

Livingston's Diego Arroyo made 10 saves.

Central Valley held on for a 2-1 victory against non-conference opponent Franklin of Stockton on Thursday in Ceres.

Calvo and Ramos each had one goal for the Hawks, who led 2-0 at intermission.

Saucedo totaled seven saves.

Jose Ramos accounted for Franklin's goal.

Ceres High and Central Valley will face off at Bulldog this Thursday. The rivalry game will get underway at 5:30 p.m. The two teams split last year.

"It's going to be tough to beat them," Mercado said.

JV SOCCER

Central Valley High School's junior-varsity boys soccer team notched its seventh and eighth wins of the season this past week.

The Hawks erased a two-goal deficit and defeated host Livingston 4-2 in WAC play on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

"We just refocused and played with heart," Central Valley head coach Rafael Fernandez said.

The first-place Hawks improved to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the WAC standings.

Elmer Hernandez scored twice.

Jorge Bustos tallied one goal and one assist.

Osvaldo Yepez had one goal.

Chuy Lopez and Alverto Rodriguez both collected one assist.

Goalkeeper Ramon Ruiz made five saves.

The Hawks trailed 2-1 at halftime.

Central Valley posted a 3-1 win over Franklin of Stockton in non-conference play on Thursday in Ceres.

Freddy Bravo led the way with two goals.

Gio Arellano scored once.

Hernandez, Bustos and Christian Larios all dished out one assist.

Ruiz had four saves.

CHS boys split

Ceres High's junior-varsity boys soccer team shut out Pacheco 3-0 at Bulldog Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 18.

Ulises Diaz tallied two goals while starring on offense.

Cristian Sotero added one goal.

Martin Reyes, the younger brother of Ceres High's varsity goalkeeper, totaled six saves.

Martin had nine saves during Thursday's 2-1 loss at Patterson.

Adrian Garcia scored for the Bulldogs (2-1-0).

The Tigers broke a 1-1 tie with less than 10 minutes to play.

First-place Central Valley (8-3, 2-0 WAC) will battle crosstown-rival Ceres High this Thursday at Bulldog Stadium. The contest will begin at 4 p.m.
