Dolphins do well

The Ceres Dolphins recreational swim team finished in fourth place at the Sea Dogs Invitational on Saturday, June 25 at Pitman High School.

Ceres piled up 13 first-place finishes, 18 seconds, eight thirds, 12 fourths, eight fifths, nine sixths, 10 sevenths and eight eighths.

Haley "The Beast" Fisicaro (15-16 girls) and Ricardo Cano (9-10 boys) both won three individual races on their way to claiming high-point honors.

Fisicaro set meet records in the 100 free, 50 free and 50 fly.

"She's the most driven girl I've coached in any sport," coach Tracy Bull said. "Every time she enters the water, a record's falling."

Cano, nicknamed Latino Michael Phelps by his teammates, shattered a meet record in the 50 fly.

Jadyn Shinn (9-10 girls) set a meet record while finishing first in the 50 breast (37.28).

"She puts a lot of pressure on herself," Bull said.

Cassandra Guevara (17-18 girls) and Diego Armas (6&under boys) had the second and third-highest point totals in their respective divisions.

Makayla Lawrence (11-12 girls) placed first in her heat and 21st overall in the 50 free. She completed the event in a personal-best time of 35.44 seconds.

"She was so excited," Bull said.

Individuals

17-18 boys

Victor Cruz placed first in the 100 breast, and second in the 100 free and 50 free.

Jason Stanhope placed third in the 50 free and 100 back, and fifth in the 100 free.

17-18 girls

Cassandra Guevara placed first in the 100 IM, and second in the 50 fly and 50 free.

Montana Bull placed first in the 50 back, fourth in the 100 free and fifth in the 50 free.

15-16 boys

Jacob Stone placed third in the 100 fly.

Zachary Jones placed fourth in the 100 breast, sixth in the 50 free and seventh in the 100 free.

Stefan Perry placed sixth in the 100 back.

15-16 girls

Haley Fisicaro placed first in the 50 fly, 50 free and 100 free.

Maureen Nelson placed second in the 100 free, and fourth in the 50 free and 50 fly.

Megan Braverman placed fifth in the 50 breast.

Kaylee Mattice placed eighth in the 50 free.

13-14 girls

Payton Mahu placed first in the 50 fly, third in the 50 free and fourth in the 50 back.

Jordan Pata placed eighth in the 50 back.

11-12 boys

Kimo Guevara placed second in the 50 free and 100 free, and third in the 100 IM.

James Diaz placed seventh in the 50 back.

11-12 girls

Julia Pata placed fourth in the 50 free, fifth in the 100 free and sixth in the 50 breast.

Emma Bevan placed sixth in the 50 fly.

Ricardo Cano placed first in the 100 IM, 50 fly and 50 free.

The 100 free relay team of Tori Kelley, Allison Stiles, Madison Bevan and Allison McAdams placed seventh.

The 100 medley relay team of Victoria Silveria, Makayla Estermann, Jimenez and Emma Silveria placed fourth.

6 & under mixed

The 100 free relay team of Diego Armas, Andy Tan, Cailin Kelley and Keira Miller placed fifth.

Ripon (1,136) won the team title at the Sea Dogs Invitational.

The Sea Dogs (1,126) and Tracy Tritons (725.5) took second and third.

Ceres (536.5) finished ahead of Manteca (457), Oakdale (180), Turlock (118) and Modesto-Stanislaus (63).

The Dolphins competed shorthanded.

"It's a little disappointing we didn't score a few more points," coach Bull said. "We just didn't have enough depth. I had kids competing in events they usually don't swim."
