East Union sweeps CHS in swimming

Ceres High's varsity boys and girls swimming teams dropped their Valley Oak League openers to East Union at home last Friday.

"The kids did really well in the majority of their races," Bulldogs head coach Rebecca Sanders said.

Hurt by a lack of depth, Ceres High's boys fell 81-78 to the Lancers in a dual meet that was tied through the first nine events.

"We had some kids go see some speaker for extra credit," coach Rebecca Sanders said. "It would have been nice to compete at full-strength."

Shane Nunes, Michael Rodrigues, Dylan Hines, Zachary Zamaroni, Kody Fliflet, Raul Massie, Robert Mata, Gianni Blandino and Johnny Clark turned in stellar performances for the Bulldogs.

Nunes placed first in the 200 free and 100 fly.

Rodrigues placed first in the 500 free and third in the 200 free.

Hines placed first in the 100 back and third in the 200 IM.

Zamaroni placed second in the 100 free.

Fliflet placed second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 breast.

Massie placed second in the 500 free and fourth in the 200 free.

Mata placed third in the 100 back and fourth in the 50 free.

Blandino placed fourth in the 100 breast and fifth in the 100 free.

Clark placed fifth in the 50 free.

The 400 free relay team of Rodrigues, Massie, Zamaroni and Nunes placed first.

The 200 free relay team of Zamaroni, Hines, Fliflet and Nunes placed first.

The 200 medley relay team of Zamaroni, Rodriguez, Massie and Hines placed second.

The 200 medley relay team of Blandino, Clark, Mata and Fliflet placed third.

Ceres' girls lost 112-56 to East Union.

The Bulldogs had four freshmen score in multiple events, including Montana Bull, Megan Braverman, Megan Valenzuela and Maureen Serna.

Bull took second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 back.

Braverman took second in the 100 fly and fourth in the 100 breast.

Valenzuela took third in the 100 fly and fifth in the 100 free.

Serna took fifth in the 100 back.

"They did a good job," Sanders said.

Kimberly Chambers, Aimee Bautista, Salleen Narvaez, Sara Aguilar, Ariel Hagel, Devyn Dollard, Leanna McConnell, Taylor Ross and Victoria Esho contributed as well.

Chambers took second in the 50 free.

Bautista took third in the 200 free and 500 free.

Narvaez took third in the 50 free.

Aguilar took third in the 100 breast and fourth in the 200 IM.

Hagel took fourth in the 100 fly.

Dollard took fourth in the 200 free and fifth in the 500 free.

McConnell took fourth in the 100 fly and fifth in the 50 free.

Ross took fifth in the 200 free.

Esho took fifth in the 200 IM.

The 400 free relay team of Bautista, Chambers, Hagel and Serna finished second.

The 200 free relay team of Bull, Chambers, McConnell and Narvaez finished second.

The 200 medley relay team of Braverman, Bull, Narvaez and Chambers finished third.
