Frosh Bulldogs post 60-48 win over Livingston

The Ceres High freshman boys basketball team used a balanced attack and halfcourt trap to defeat Livingston 60-48 on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at Mae Hensley Jr. High School.

“Our team looked very impressive on defense,” Ceres assistant coach Brian Kline said. “Four of our starters scored on offense.”

Marcus Hilgen, Tony Bradford, Balpreet Sandu, Matt Lampley and Martino Bertolotti combined for 58 points. Hilgen finished with a team-high 16 points. Bradford had 15 points. Sandu and Lampley both tallied 11 points.

Bertolotti added five points.

The Bulldogs maintained a 27-19 lead at the break.

Ceres took control in the second quarter. Down 11-10, the Bulldogs outscored the Wolves 17-8. Hilgen and Bradford scored six and five points, respectively. Lampley and Sandu both added two points. Bertolotti and Jaspreet Singh had one point apiece.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 12, 43-31, in the third quarter. Bradford scored eight points. Lampley added four points. Hilgen and Sandu each had two points.

Ceres shot 55 percent (11-for-20) from the free-throw line for the game. Livingston shot 40 percent (2-for-5) from the foul line.

The Bulldogs are hosting an eight-team tournament this week. Ceres, Escalon, Atwater, Los Banos, East Union, Livingston, Ripon and Turlock will be vying for the championship.
