Golden Valley handed the Ceres High football team its second consecutive loss of the season Friday night at Stadium '76 in Merced.

AC McGhee ran for 134 yards on 24 carries and scored two touchdowns in leading the Cougars to a 22-13 victory over the Bulldogs. Golden Valley improved to 4-0 overall.

Quarterback Derrick Goblirsch passed for 172 yards and one touchdown, fullback Ray Robles rushed 19 times for 81 yards and a score and defensive lineman Nick Eudy registered 11 tackles for the Bulldogs, who fell to 1-3 overall.

"We battled the entire game," said Ceres coach Bret Durossette. "It's just a matter of us being able to play four quarters of football. That's something we haven't done."

Ceres trailed 22-7 at intermission.

Robles' 9-yard rushing touchdown and Brandon Gresham's point-after-attempt kick put the Bulldogs ahead 7-0 lead with 4 minutes, 49 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Robles' run capped a 15-play drive.

Then the Cougars took over by scoring three times in the second quarter.

Reid Herchenbach threw a 17-yard touchdown strike to Kyle McMillin and McGhee scored from 4 and 3 yards out, respectively.

The Bulldogs scored their final touchdown with 3:40 left in regulation.

Goblirsch threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Brian Borges. Golden Valley linebacker Tim Auyso blocked Gresham's PAT, which would have cut the Cougars' lead to eight.

The Cougars piled up 305 yards of total offense in the game, including 208 rushing on 39 carries. Herchenbach completed eight passes for 97 yards.

Borges, Zack Wiedenbeck and Jesus Cadenas had seven, six and five tackles, respectively for the Bulldogs.
