Central Valley High School's varsity boys basketball team scrimmaged for the second time this season when it played host to Lathrop this past week.

The Hawks lost 76-53 to the Spartans on Tuesday, Nov. 25.

"We weren't too worried about the score," Central Valley senior point guard Camron Thornton said. "We just wanted to make sure we ran things right."

The Hawks used multiple lineups against Lathrop.

Thornton, Miguel Rodriguez, Edgar Urbieta, Hawk Duarte and Amrit Chahal started.

Sophomores Ja'Quan Gardner, Diego Sanchez, Jordan Sek and Milton Uti, and freshman Jaron Dickson made up the Hawks' second unit.

Minder Singh, Jaquel Pitts, Salvador Venegas, Caselli Richardson and Cristian Chavez also received playing time.

Rodriguez led Central Valley in scoring with 13 points.

Sanchez had eight points.

Duarte and Gardner both collected seven points.

Thornton and Uti tallied six and four points, respectively.

Urbieta, Singh, Pitts and Venegas all contributed two points.

The Hawks buried seven 3-pointers, including three by Rodriguez and two by Duarte and Sanchez.

The scrimmage lasted 40 minutes.

"I like the young guys," Thornton said. "They should be on varsity. It will be good for the type of offense we run. We can keep the pressure up."

The Hawks trailed by just six points, 50-44, heading into the fourth quarter.

"Our execution was a lot better from our last scrimmage," Thornton said. "We were in the right positions on offense and defense."
