Central Valley High School's varsity girls golf team matched last season's win total when it beat first-year Pacheco by 30 strokes, 186-216, on Thursday at St. Stanislaus.

"They didn't know how to react," Hawks head coach Vanessa Morris said when asked if her players celebrated after the win. "This gives them some confidence."

Central Valley improved to 1-2 in Western Athletic Conference play.

The Panthers dropped to 0-3 on the year.

Freshman Lizette Martinez led the Hawks with a 17-over-par 45. She parred the seventh hole.

Central Valley teammates Martina Bernal, Claudia Diaz and Jocelyn Camarillo shot 46, 47 and 48, respectively.

Jessica Reinbold carded a team-best 52 for Pacheco. Joanna Meza (54), Breanna Miller (55) and Regina Rhodes (55) rounded out the Panthers' scorecard.

The Hawks struggled to a 1-13 record in the Valley Oak League in 2009.

This year's team should experience more success.

"I'm happy with them," Morris said. "They're getting better each match. That's all I can ask for."
