Seniors Lizette Covarrubias, Simi Talawan, Alicia Yori, Alexiss Cervera, Elizabeth Amaya, Alyssa Long, Kaelin Smith and Andrea Arellano played their final home game for Central Valley High School's varsity girls soccer team earlier this week.

Covarrubias and Arellano both scored as the Hawks rallied from a one-goal deficit twice and salvaged a 2-2 tie with Los Banos on Monday in Ceres.

"They had fun," Central Valley head coach Cyndi Meshach said. "That's important because it's senior night."

The Hawks moved to 1-5-3 in the Western Athletic Conference standings.

The Tigers improved to 2-8 in league play.

Covarrubias and her senior teammates were recognized during a special ceremony at halftime of last week's meeting. Meshach exchanged hugs with her outgoing players.

"It's really sad because I love these girls," Lizette said. "It's hard to leave them. We've played together since we were little."

Stacy Arroyo's close-range goal gave Los Banos a 2-1 lead nine minutes into the second half.

Covarrubias converted a 35-yard free kick in the 68th minute.

Cervera just missed scoring the go-ahead goal in the 77th minute. Her shot off a rebound hit the outside of the left net.

"The second half we played a lot better," Covarrubias said. "We just got unlucky."

The Hawks and Tigers battled to a 1-1 tie in the opening half.

Arroyo scored in the 27th minute.

Arellano tallied the equalizer in the 36th minute.

Amaya, Central Valley's goalkeeper, made two saves.

Los Banos' Brianna Bostick tallied 12 saves.

Central Valley will close out the WAC season today at Ceres High.

The contest will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The Hawks lost 3-1 to the Bulldogs last month.

"We have the talent to beat them," Covarrubias said. "We should if our mindsets right. I believe in my team."
